Notes for Ministry Encouragement Podcast – Episode 015_10-10-12

Rev. Jim W. Hollis, Proactive Ministries:  www.proactive-ministries.org

Introduction and Welcome:

Hello and welcome to the FIFTEENTH EPISODE of the Ministry Encouragement Podcast, an experience that will touch you at the point of one or more of your greatest needs, lift your life spiritually AND provide you with new Christ-empowered motivation to move fully into the JOY of discipleship and the ADVENTURE of ministry.  I am SO appreciative of you allowing me to share in your life today through this Podcast.

I am Rev. Jim W. Hollis, the Founder and Executive Director of Proactive Ministries.  This ministry has grown from a spiritual vision and a Staff of one – ME – to a ministry Staff of 21 today.  Proactive Ministries has provided ministry coaching and training to more than 900 congregations across North America since 1993.

In this our fifteenth episode we will be taking a look at some shocking and very sad news for Christians today which has been carried by numbers of mainline media sources:  USA TODAY front page headline read: “Protestants lose majority status in U.S.”  and the Washington Post headline read: “Losing our religion: one in five Americans are now ‘Nones’.”

As Christians in 2012 we could just read these, hear these and notice hundreds of comments about them and go, “OH WELL… that’s today’s culture.”  But I want us to consider praying for a spiritual wake up call in these days.  For many of us listening to this podcast are Leaders in the Christian Community and directors of ministry areas in local, Protestant Churches. This is OUR WATCH, entrusted to us in this time from God. What will be do about this to bring lasting reversal and spiritual change?

I  respond to this news with the need for Four Priority Shifts to reverse spiritual decline.   These are:

1)    Return Jesus Christ to the center of Christian experience – as we shift ourselves from the present center

2)    Stop waiting and whining about decline – shift to the priority of GO

3)    Develop discipleship ministries that bring spiritual transformations

4)    Encourage our families to practice faith development at home

The only practical way these priority shifts can occur is from us getting in touch with the Holy Spirit’s passion and burden for persons who have no personal relationship with God through Christ.  The ramping up of the NONES is simply not acceptable “on our spiritual watch as Leaders” today.  It is certainly not God’s best intention for our lives as Christ-followers.  Jesus was not about pleasing himself or prioritizing comfort.  He gave His life and all to us that we may live our all for God in ministry.

Jesus Christ made it clear – He came to earth with a mission priority – to seek and save the lost.  That is exactly what he spent his earthly ministry engaged in. This is what he taught his own disciples who in turn reached and trained disciple making, making true disciples of Jesus Christ.

What are your thoughts about this news of increased decline of Christianity in the United States today? What do you feel in your heart and soul about 1 out of every 3 young adults today not identifying with any religion or claiming to have any personal relationship with God?

I have a lot to tell but decided to best just thank you for the effort you have put out to encourage others. Been listening since I learned about your podcast. I appreciate you and what you are doing. You’ve helped me. I pastor a small church in Washington, DC. http://historicbereanbaptistchurch.org. It has been a struggle but I am coming out of it now for this round with a sense of purpose.

I have just figured out some stuff and have been working on doing what you talked about in episode 15. Will share more later. I’ve been podcasting since 2005 and going to take what I have learned, and use it MORE to the glory of God.

I bless God for you bro. Keep on working it. I know you are learning this podcasting thing so I won’t beat you up on it. (smile) but the Spirit of what you sought to do…. is being done. Just letting you know.
